Borden United Charities

Borden United Charities was an amalgamation of 5 different donors within the Ancient Parish of Borden. An application was made for the Trust to the Charity Commissioners on the 9th December 1931 signed by Alfred Hinge and the Charity scheme was sealed on the 5th may 1931.

The Trust was formed with 3 Trustees, 2 from the Parish Council (Alfred Hinge and Alfred Tidy) and 1from, as then, the Urban District Council (Francis Walsh)The general aim of the Charity was to help the sick and the poor of the Parish. The grants made in the form of medical assistance, provision of nurses, medical equipment and other such comforts (the mind boggles).

Further grants were made such as clothing, boots, bedding, coal and tools, also assistance in money.
Preference was given to persons who were or had been farmers. Today the Charity is administered in much the same way but the grants are in monetary form to the people of the parish, young and old who, subject to the trustees approval, qualify for the trust’s assistance.
